The Divine Nine

Who or What are they?

The Divine Nine are the nine historically Black Greek letter organizations that are part of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s African Americans were discriminated upon and not allowed to undergo the process of rush in order to join the white fraternities and sororities. They craved the need to be able to form a union in which they could all come together and share similar attitudes and beliefs and feel accepted. In 1906, at Cornell University, was the establishment and the commencement of the traditionally, most powerful, and influential groups in African American society—The Divine Nine.

The Nine…

Each one of these organizations has their own strong background and is rich in history. In 1906, at Cornell University the first black Greek fraternity was established. This is the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. Shining across thousands of campuses in their colors of black and gold, the Alphas carry the pride of being the first black Greek organization ever established. Following in their footsteps are the Alphas “sisters,” the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated founded just two years later. The other ones are Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, aka, the “pretty boys,” Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and their sisters, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, and the Iota Phi Theta Fraternity. These organizations have their own plan and purpose but mainly promote progress and success economically and educationally, while also providing service to aid their community. Each of the organizations has established their own mission statement by which is an objective the different members go about in each Greek chapter. For example, the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated mission statement states:

“Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world.”

These organizations have a plan participate in or throw many different activities on campus in order to make the college experience interesting and successful for college students of all crowds.

Stomping the Yard

A main theme of each of the organizations promote is unity. One way they do this is by the organizations coming together and stepping, or strolling. According to a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority,

“Strolling, sometimes called party walking, is a synchronized routine done in single file to predetermined music. But no description can do strolling justice. You have to see and feel it to understand.”

Each organization is very distinct and unique in their own ways. Besides their organizational colors and symbols, and sign, one way to distinguish them from the others is their dance movements. For example, the Kappas are known to chimmey in a line or swirl their red and white canes, while the Omegas are known to jump around and have high energy filled movements. The AKAs promote conceitedness and a strong self-esteem by constantly whipping their hair and pretend to look in a mirror, while the Sigma Gamma Rho girls tend to place their hands in front of them and move their shoulders from side to side to imitate a cute poodle. From their steps to their strolls these different characteristics set them apart from each other.

There are people who care, You are not alone.

Do you feel alone? Do you feel like no one cares? Do you feel Worthless and pointless? You should not have to feel this way, and may be suffering from depression. Many people do not realize that depression kills thousands of people each year, a number that is increasing. This number is only based on people who commit suicide as a result of depression, even more people, however, die due to alcohol or drugs that they choose to mask their feelings with.

People who suffer from depression can feel a wide range of symptoms. It is an illness that affects people mentally, emotionally and physically. Depression affects a person’s eating and sleeping patterns, lowers sense of self-

esteem and self-worth, and has a negative effect on everyone around. People experience a loss in interest in many things, ranging from sexual activity to food to sleeping to work or even previously fun activities/hobbies.

I, myself, dealt with harsh depression, contemplated suicide as i felt the pain simply wasn't worth it anymore... I suffered for years, and never bothered getting help. I didn't believe anyone could help me. Feeling that alone and worthless was horrid, and nobody deserves to deal with that. Not me. Not you. Not anybody.

So I want every single one of you reading this to understand that there is help out there for those depressed. Maybe you're not depressed yourself, you might just know somebody who has seemed really sad for a long time... You can make their day by being there for them... show them that you care... and try to help them... if that doesn't work, then there is professional help easily obtained.

There are many types of depression, and it is important that you are diagnosed with the right type so that you can be treated and feel better as soon as possible. Antidepressants are not a cure, they are simply a treatment, but they do work. They remove most symptoms that come with depression. This, however, does not cure the depression. The Certified therapist, Mark Tyrell explains that, “[a] true cure for depression is to learn the skills, habits and thought patterns of people who don't get depressed." After learning these patterns, applied them to people who face depression is the “true cure” to depression.

Depression, once treated, most often definitely allow people to live full complete lives again. Many famous people also deal with depression. My own personal favorite artist, the world famous Emilie Autumn, lives with a depression type known as Manic depression. She was diagnosed at the age of four, and has even been in a mental asylum for her disease. Yet today she plays world class revolutionary music on her violin.

The National Institute of Mental Health is a government institution designated to improve the understanding and treatments of mental illnesses through clinical trials and intramural research programs. They state that by year 2020, depression will be the second largest killer. I say we need to stop this. Raise the world awareness, and get the people help so they can once again feel happiness. It will save lives, create happiness, and remove sadness from this world. Spread the word. Help me help others.

To All you high school seniors out there, Let us help you!

In high school, the relevance of audience and genre in writing are not brought to importance. However, to the rest of the world these two factors have a huge effect on how your messages are conveyed. You may not realize it, but at any point that you sit down and write, you subconsciously use both of these terms; although your teacher might not put any emphasis on it throughout grading your papers. As you develop your writing skills, you will start to realize that the effectiveness of your writing will improve if you keep your audience in mind while writing. Choosing your genre carefully will also increase the efficiency of your writing.

The audience is the group you are trying to convey your message to. They are the ones that respond to, or take action based on your ideas, concepts, and beliefs. The audience affects the diction that you use in your writing. Genre on the other hand is also important because it can help you determine who your audience is. Choosing a specific audience or a specific genre determines the other. When choosing a specific audience, there are certain genres that will more effectively convey your message to that specific audience. Choosing a specific genre, however, will determine the audience you’re targeting.

Take Martin Luther King, for example, in his letter from a Birmingham jail, King specifically targets the clergymen. His choice of audience severely affects the manner in which he delivers his message. Because he knows his audience, he addresses them directly and personally. Doing so, the audience, or specifically the clergymen, knows that King is reaching out to them only. So how does genre correlate with the audience? Billy Collins for example uses the genre of speech to address his audience of graduating high school students, in his commencement speech. Realizing that he is giving a speech and that many high school students would not want to sit down and listen to an hour long speech, he keeps in mind that he must keep them interested.

Whereas genre and audience are the most important terms in writing as it shapes your entire work, another important aspect of writing is the rhetorical situation. A rhetorical situation is the reason for writing, or an audience’s call for information. Bitzer talks about rhetorical situations, and comes up with a perfect example, the John F Kennedy assassination. When Kennedy was assassinated, the public called for information as to whom, how, and why. This is the rhetorical situation of the Kennedy assassination. This information soon changed and slowed down as the culprit was arrested and taken into custody, and thus the rhetorical situation was lessened in the process.

Ultimately, when writing your first college paper, or when going out into the work force and writing a letter to your boss, consider the audience, genre, and rhetorical situation and make the best of the scenario and rely your message at maximum efficiency. As a high school senior, you will face many challenges ahead, don’t let writing be one of them.

Genre and Audience and Why It's Important!!! Aaron and Beth

The first thing to consider when beginning your writing process, you need to remember your audience. Without properly understanding your audience, you are going to find it hard to decide on a genre for your writing process. Considering your audience is one of the most important steps in your writing process because it's hard to keep a fifth grader hooked when your writing is so formal you sound like you are talking to someone in a college setting.

Audience is the person or the group of people that your writing is targeted towards. Different audiences will require you to use different tones, diction, and style throughout your writing.

In the Commencement Address at Choate-Rosemary Hall by Billy Collins, he is addressing a class of high school seniors at their graduation. So by determining this audience, he understood that he needed to use a genre they could relate to, and use formal language since it was a graduation ceremony. He gave examples of what to expect next in life because he understood that they were about to enter a new realm and start a new chapter of their life.

Where does Audience fit into your writing process?

Audience should be one of the most important factors when thinking about your writing process. Determining your audience early allows you to think of ways to understand them and helps you keep their attention throughout your writing. The audience makes the paper stay focused throughout the entire process.

Understanding your audience is also going to help you find the proper genre to engage your audience throughout your entire paper.

The proper genre for the proper audience

"Focus in on the genre you want to write, and read books in that genre. A lot of books by a variety of authors. And read with questions in your mind." - Nicholas Sparks

Once you have determined your audience, you need to figure out what genre you want to work with. Whether it be an article, a research paper, or a speech the audience will help you determine the right way to approach the situation.

Instead of an article or a paper, Martin Luther King Jr decided to use the genre of a letter to get his message across to the clergymen but in essence to the entire world. A letter to a specific audience was a way to get his point to the entire community because a letter is more formal and personal rather than an article or interview. Since his audience was more of an upscale/higher class audience, he needed to use a formal style when he wrote his letter and it made it seem more of a pressing issue because it was important to him, it was something that needed to be handled as soon as possible.

Reflect on Reflection

Using reflection during your writing process is just as important as audience and genre. Reflecting on your writing, will help you think about what you wrote, who your audience was, and how go about perfecting the relationship between what you wrote and the audience.

Yancey defines reflection as, " the processes by which we know what we have accomplished and by which we articulate accomplishment and the products of those processes."

Most of the time we are reflecting on things and don't even realize we are. When reflecting, it's something that takes time to do, it's not just a one to two minute thinking process. It helps you think back to what you wrote and helps you reassure yourself that you wanted to say everything that you needed to say in your writing when finishing the final copy.

High School vs. College Writing

            Upon writing this piece to you, the subjects presented at hand are as follows: audience, genre, and rhetorical situation. Throughout your High School Careers you have been immersed in a world of writing, introduced to various nationally acclaimed authors who have established themselves as timeless artists. From these examples, it was required of you to learn from their works and gather your own theory of writing, simple enough right? Well college is a little different than high school, sources are picked by yourselves and not the other way around. As far as structure goes, organization is a little more loose. The standardized five paragraph essay is thrown out the window for a universe of composition. On that note, let us begin with the first concept, audience. Essentially, audience is who the writer is addressing in his or her writing. Since ones writing has a purpose regardless if it is informative or persuasive, audience holds an obvious importance. It gives a writer a community to write to in order to reach said goal. Billy Collins wrote and delivered commencement address to high school graduates, much like yourselves. In it he spoke to not only the graduates, but their friends and relatives. He kept in mind the varying demographic of his audience and managed to encompass all with words of wisdom for the quickly approaching future. This may not have been as effective in the form of a poem or haiku, because he’s purpose was to inspire and give appropriate advice. This brings about the next concept of genre. Genre can be defined as the form of writing one utilizes to most effectively communicate to his or her audience. Consider this post for example, it is a blog post. Were I writing a short narrative or poem, the structure and syntax would be presented in a very different light. The perfect example for this subject proves Martin Luther Kings “Letter from Birmingham Jail.” His chosen genre was to compose a letter. Why? Because it presented a more personal approach to connecting with his audience, a tactic that conveyed his beliefs fully. King was a man of peace and wanted unity, by choosing to write a letter, he could keep his cognitions consistent. Now lets move on to our next focus, rhetorical situation. We all have a purpose for writing. My purpose of writing this moment is to display to you, the difference between High School and College writing intensities. With that in mind, rhetorical situation can be defined as the motivating force behind our call to action and why we write or speak in the first place. If you have not yet noticed, all of the concepts depicted each play their own part in the formation of an essay. However, they also play their part in balancing and bouncing off of each other. Audience, genre, and rhetorical situation create the strong foundation of an essay which gives the author the means by which to compose his or her piece. With all of these concepts in mind, remember how each of these topics interconnect and develop your own theory of writing. While packing up don’t forget to use this concept to transition into college level work.

To be prepared for college writing there are three key terms that you will need to have a full understanding of in order to create successful writing. Audience, genre, and rhetorical situation are the necessary terms to understand and know how to use for good writing. All of these terms are interconnected and compliment eachother when you are writing.

Audience

The audience is what you must reach out and connect to. They receive the message that your writing conveys. Choosing your audience helps you determine the language, tone, and rhetoric. Your audience is also connected to your genre. Knowing your audience will help you pick a suitable genre for your writing. In Billy Collins’ “Commencement Address at Choate Rosemary Hall,” he is asked to give a commencement address to a class of prestigious high school graduates. Knowing the audience he was going to address he chose a language that they could understand and relate to. It also affected the tone he used. By choosing an appropriate language you can keep your audience interested throughout the entire piece.

Genre

Genre is the type of writing that an author chooses based on his purpose and audience. When you figure out the purpose of your writing, whether it may be to compare, argue, analyze, report, or explain, it is then possible to pick a genre that is appropriate to the purpose. Choosing the appropriate genre is important in deciding your targeted audience that you want your writing to reach out to. Genre can also determine in what way you will reach out to your audience, for example in Martin Luther King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail”, he chooses to write a letter in which it makes his writing more personalized and his tone more serious. He uses a letter with the intention that it will complement his purpose of writing. Billy Collins considers the genre of his piece of writing as well. In Collins’ “Commencement Address at Choate Rosemary Hall,” he is asked to give a commencement address to a class of prestigious high school graduates. Collins, knowing the audience he was writing to and the purpose of his writing, could then decide the kind of genre he needed to use for this assignment.

Rhetorical Situation

Rhetorical situation is the overall nature of your writing. In a rhetorical situation there is always a purpose or argument, which may be referred to as an exigence, or situation. When there is a situation that needs to be addressed it calls for a rhetorical discourse, or explanation to an audience by certain constraints that may have influenced the rhetorical situation. For example in Martin Luther King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail”, his rhetorical situation consists of the main purpose convincing the clergymen to hear his cry for equality, this is constrained by whether or not the clergymen will accept his proposal. His exigence is the overall situation that the society of his time was in. His rhetorical discourse was his cry for equality in his society.

On July 9, 2010 one of the biggest transactions took place in NBA history sending NBA all-star lebron james and Chris Bosh to the Miami Heat to form the new dynasty with the resigning of Dwayne Wade. On this day of July 9^th the famous but arguably infamous “Big Three” was formed, the new “Big Three” to hit the NBA, taking the spotlight away from the Boston Celtics the most recent team to form a big three before Miami. One may ask, “What is a “Big Three?” A big three is a cluster of NBA stars not just athletes, forming an alliance on one team usually taking a team from the status quo to super caliber playoff contender over night.

King James

Lebron James who also goes by King James was born on December 30, 1984 in the very small town of Akron, Ohio, growing up basketball was Lebron’s life he knew from a pretty young age he had a gift he was abnormally great at basketball. At age 14 Lebron James was dunking in his 8^th grade basketball games against the most phenomenal of teams and athletes but no other teenager at 14 could keep up with Lebron at that age his athleticism appeared almost supernatural like gift from god. Lebron was a young kid playing in a grown man’s body. Lebron attended Saint Vincent- Saint Mary high school in Akron. Lebron James stands at 6 feet 8 inches, 240 pounds, with a wing span of over seven feet, this massive human being went on to be the number one draft pick of the Cleveland cavaliers in 2003 where he spent seven years of his career prior to making the move to the Miami heat. Lebron James is one of the two newcomers who chose constant warm weather, beautiful beaches, gorgeous scenery and an amazing night life, over cold frigid weather.

Bosh Time

Chris Wesson Bosh an NBA all star and Olympic gold medalists was born on March 24, 1984 in Dallas, Texas. Bosh grew up watching his dad play pick-up basketball games at the gym in Hutchins, Texas. Bosh was always tall for his age so he stood out amongst others as an athlete. In high school bosh was dubbed “Mr. Basketball” by the folks in his town. Chris Bosh attended Lincoln high school in Dallas before moving on to the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he played for only one year before leaving and going to the NBA draft. Bosh set out for the draft at 6 feet 10 inches, 228 pounds and was the fourth overall pick in the 2003 draft where he was selected by the Toronto Raptors. Bosh stayed in Toronto seven years before moving to Miami to play for the Heat.

Wade County

The last but not least piece to this puzzle we call the “big three” is the original glue to the team Dwayne wade, the only player to stay put and watch this “three-headed monster” form right around him. Dwayne is an NBA champion, NBA all star, and Olympic gold medalist, wade was born in Chicago, Illinois, January 17, 1982. Wade grew up in a very family oriented home with parents of strong religious background. Wade attended Marquette university before leading the Miami Heat to the championship in 2006 practically single handedly wade carried the team to victory over the Dallas Mavericks in two six games. Wade was drafted third overall in the 2003 draft, the same draft his two new teammates were drafted in all in the first round. Wade is listed at 6 foot 4 inches, 220 pounds and is still wreaking havoc in the NBA today.

Lebron Poetry Corner

Although Lebron James is the unstoppable athlete he is, his career has had its ups & downs and so has his relationship with his fans. After Lebron left Cleveland his public image had taken somewhat of a beating so Lebron held a poetry counter so his true fans could express their gratitude of his greatness. Although Lebron was hoping for good sentiments with his contest he still received some heavy blows in the mix. This is a poem written by J. Patrick Lewis:

Heartbreak on the Lake

Round the decay of that colossal funk,

On-line Class Day: Let's Have a Moment(s)

"Sometimes, you know, you have a moment."
In her CCCC address, Kathleen Yancey discusses what she believes are four moments happening right now in the field of rhetoric and composition. She defines a "moment" as a situation that affects or will affect writing, learning, knowledge, and education. She discusses things that are relevant to you as a college student in the 21st century. For example she talks about things like literacy practices (or the ability to read and write) are affected when you write in a print genre or a networked (or the computer screen) genre.

I want you to "have a moment" (or actually two). Up to this point you have read about and/or work with different key terms such as rhetorical situation, genre, audience, reflection, knowledge, exigence, etc. All of these terms connect to your writing and your writing process. You have also worked in many different genres such as an essay, an article, different types of reflections, and more. Think about how all of this connects to you as a writer, a composer, and a knowledge-maker.

So, I want you to have a moment or in other words develop your own two moments in which you describe, explain, explore, create your ideas about writing, the key terms that you have learned so far in this class, and your writing process. This should come as a response to what you have experienced both inside this class already and outside the class (in other classes, but also in real life experiences). What does writing and composing mean to you right now--as part of this class and as part of your major (note: as we have talked about in class ALL majors involve some amount of writing) and whatever potential job you might seek later on.

Be specific with your response. I'm not looking for you to say how hard it is to define these two moments---that only waste part of your 500 words. I want specific and concrete ideas.

Also be creative. Think about what you want to get across in this post and how you want to lay it out.

Reggae

Reggae is a genre of music that has a major influence in the Jamaican society. This genre originated in the 1960’s and is mainly based off of other genres like ska and rocksteady. Reggae mostly consists of drums and the base guitar and has a slower rhythmic beat than the two genres it originated from. Reggae music has evolved to a genre that is mostly based on popular social issues like love, poverty, and faith. Reggae was a big part of the Rastafarian movement is now commonly mistaken for the same genre.

Popularity

Bob Marley played a very large role in bringing reggae music popularity worldwide. He mainly focused on writing about social issues and that is what brought many people to listen to reggae. His lyrics of peace, love, and faith were appealing to a variety of cultures no matter what race or ethnicity. They were all joined by the passion that was shown through reggae. Bob Marley was able to main stream reggae and has one of the biggest influences on this genre. He has many famous quotes that people still remember to this day. One of his most famous being, “Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don't complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don't bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake Up and Live!” this quote is a perfect example of many things that Bob Marley believes in and that the reggae culture believes in. He is emphasizing that when you are going through hard times, you should not let that influence your personality. He believes in being optimistic and a good person. Reggae music is a genre that is very positive and calming because as you can see in the quote, there are many inspirational lines that comes with reggae.


Rastafarian influence in Reggae

The sounds and lyrics of reggae are forever impacted by the Rastafarian way of life. The Rastafarian way of life is a religious movement arising in Jamaica during the 1930. Their beliefs in the spiritual use of cannabis, rejection of Babylon, or western society, and their belief in Zion is riddled throughout reggae and has influenced this genre dramatically. For their beliefs are riddled throughout this genre. A perfect example of the Rastafarians beliefs in reggae is Buffalo Soldier by none only Bob Marley. This song depicts how Africans Americans fought in the American Civil War and how Babylon held them down through slavery and their western beliefs. These two things play hand in hand, for without Rastafarian way of life reggae would be nothing, and without reggae the Rastafarian way of life could not express their beliefs through lyrical harmony.

Taylor Swift was born in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. Taylor lived on a farm with her mom, dad, and brother. Her grandmother was an opera singer. Taylor is a country singer and songwritter who started off at a young age. At just ten years old she began peforming  in from of audiences. She quickly learned how to play the guitar. When Taylor turned eleven she took a trip to Nashville in hopes to get a record deal. She handed out demo's that she made, but was continuelly turned down.

Her Big Break

Taylor didn't give up on her dream easily. After performing the national anthem at an U.S Open Tennis Tournament, Taylor was invited to perform at the famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. Scott Borchetta saw a spark in Taylor and signed her to his new label, Big Machine Records. Taylor's first single "Tim McGraw" was released in 2006.  The CD became number 19 on the sales charts and sold more than 61,000 during its first week. The music video  set a record by appearing for 30 consecutive weeks on a top 20 country countdown music show. The video also was number one on CMT's video charts.

At a Glance

Taylor Swift  is known for writing and singing about her personal experiences. Her audiences can relate to her songs in their own ways. This is what makes Taylor so popular. She has released three studio albums. Fearless became the most awarded album in country music history. She has been nominated over 136 times and has won 73 awards. Taylor has been a guest for multiple celebrities including Opera and Ellen. Taylor has also acted in the television show CSI. With sold out concerts and being at the top of the charts, Taylor Swifts dreams have come true.

gLee has been one of the most viewed television shows on FOX for the past two seasons it's been aired. Producer Ryan Murphy originally thought about Glee being a movie but decided to create a musical sitcom instead that would have millions watching and wanting more. The show focuses on a high school show choir trying to make their way to nationals but along the way face tormenting and of course the famous Sue Sylvester along the way.

And the Emmy Goes To....

Over the course of the two seasons and the many award shows broadcasted on television, Glee has been nominated for nineteen Emmy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, sex Satellite Awards, and fifty-seven other awards. The awards included a Golden Glove for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy, Emmy award for Jane Lynch, guest star Neil Patrick Harris and also Ryan Murphy's direction of the pilot episode first aired back in June of 2008. The show also got the opportunity to fill the time slot that followed the 2011 Super Bowl XLV with a brand new episode beginning part 2 of the second season.

From Journey to Original Songs

The songs chosen for the episodes of Glee are popular, and have to pertain to the episode, such as the episode "Never Been Kissed" the very popular and rising stars of the Warblers, sang a version of Katy Perry's Teenage Dream, which first introduced Blaine into the picture with Kurt; both gay characters on Glee. The music performances of the cast of Glee have been a commercial success for the past two seasons. The Glee Cast versions of the songs performed on the sitcom, gave positive outcomes for strong performers such as Rihanna and Journey. The songs have been downloaded and listened to by millions of viewers nationwide. And some songs such as Loser Like Me have just been inspired by rude, and overbearing cheerleading coaches...cough cough Sue Sylvester.

And That's How Sue...C's It

Sue Sylvester is one of the main characters and fuel of this show. With her feisty and great comebacks towards Will Schuester in the episodes, there is no stopping this cheerleading coach in Lima, Ohio.

Sue Sylvester: You know, William, that's what one Hubert Humphrey said back in 1968 at the start of the Democratic National Convention. But then hippies put acid in everyone's bourbon, and when an updraft revealed Lady Bird Johnson's tramp stamp, and tattoos above her ovaries, Mayor Richard J. Daley became so incensed with sexual rage that he punched his own wife in the face, and spent the next hour screaming 'sex party' into the microphones of all three major networks.
Will Schuester: Okay, I'm pretty sure none of that happened.
Sue Sylvester: You can expect a call very soon from my lawyer, Gloria Allred. I'm gonna sue the pants off you, Will. I'm gonna take your house, your car, your extensive collection of vests. I mean, seriously, you wear more vests than the cast of Blossom. I'll see you in court.

Her great humor and comments about Schuester's clothes or curly hair, tormenting the Glee kids for being losers (pushing them into lockers and taking her anger out on them), funny expressions, and clever methods of sabotoge make the musical-sitcom that much more entertaining to watch!

Kim Kardashian: My Celebrity Obsession.

Most people know Kim Kardashian, as the playboy girl with the huge butt, or because of her sex tape with Ray J, but she is much more than that. She is a charitable woman, who with NO college education has done EXCELLENT for herself.

She is the daughter of famous attorney Robert Kardashian, who is most commonly known for his trial with OJ Simpson, and Kris Jenner, now married to Olympic Gold-medalist, Bruce Jenner. With her mother and step-father’s marriage she is one of ten siblings so as you could probably guess that she is very family oriented. This is most easily shown on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” a show on E! that has made her the highest earning reality T.V. star. She is making $40,000 per episode, which allowed her to make over $6 million in 2010.

Kim isn’t only making her money from her reality shows but also from her many other projects; Kim has her own perfume called “Kim Kardashian”, she has a clothing line, a series of workout DVDs called “Fit Into Your Jeans by Friday” which was #1 selling video on Amazon.com, modeling deals, her own jewelry line, a pre-paid credit card endorsement, a tanning product, an iPhone avatar, and even just her presence. She was paid $75,000 last year to show up at a party in Miami, and as weird as it may sound she charged her guests to attend her birthday party last year, yes… I said she charged HER GUESTS to attend her party, anywhere from $1,000 to $2,500.

She also gets paid just for sharing her thoughts with people on Twitter. Kim is making $10,000 per tweet, yes that means with 3 “tweets” a day she is making $30,000, which is CRAZY seeing as how the average ANNUAL salary in the U.S, meaning how much someone makes in a year is $31,410, so she is making in one day what the average American is making in a YEAR!

Kim started out as a fashion stylist and was eventually requested to do infomercials, t.v. shows, music videos, and photo shoots, which lead her to designing her own line. Then in partnership with Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, they opened their own store called Dash.

The three girls also co-design with BEBE. Kim has also started her own online shoe store of affordable shoes called shoedazzle.com.

When Kim’s father passed away he left his $100 million estate to his four children, and no one knows exactly how much each child got or what it is worth now so Kim’s worth is only an estimation, but she is estimated at $12 million. So what does she do with all of that worth?

Kim Kardashian may seem like just a reality TV star that is doing whatever she can to make money and find ways to date famous men, but she is always dedicating time to others. She is VERY

passionate when it comes to charities…

she is the ambassador for the Dream Foundation, which grants wishes of terminally ill adults, and frequently holds auctions on ebay in order to raise money. She recently was photographed wearing bracelets that were made in Africa supporting “Until There’s a Cure” campaign. These bracelets are sold in order to raise money and awareness about HIV/AIDS.

She has also been a part of completing PSA’s about the political plight in Buruma and Breast Cancer Awareness.

Kim definitely loves her fans as well, she is all about keeping them up to date, as mentioned earlier she likes to “tweet” which would make sense as to why she has over 5 million followers on Twitter… & I will admit to being one of them. I <3 her! She boasts over 2.5 million friends on Facebook, which she updates daily. And her official website, kimkardashian.com which receives over 40 million views a month, AKA the fastest growing celebrity blog.

So, she may just seem like the run of the mill celebrity just making her shows & clothes to make her money, but she has always been much more than that to me. I see her as a hero, a woman who with NO college education has made a name forherself. She is family oriented and always showing love to others, and helping those way less fortunate than her, because most people that come from money only care about money, and it means a lot that she cares about others, and sharing her money and herself with everyone around her. Kim Kardashian is someone that everyone can learn something from.
