Who I Am as a Writer
It has ALWAYS been the same way for writing for me. I get the assignment, SAY i'm going to start that night by mapping out what i'm going to write about. I definitely do not do that, about 3 days before the assignment is due. Then I plan and attack the assignment and I stay up the night before and edit and revise it. It's worked for me in high school.
And then the summer before my freshman year in college, I began a Tumblr. account. A blogging website and my writing changed forever. I wrote about a lot of different things, whenever I felt inspired or when I really needed to vent and get something off my chest. I wrote a lot during the summer, but once the school year began, I lost my inspiration and motivation to blog.
And when I started ENC1102 in the spring, my writing habits definitely changed for good. You had the drafts the next week so we could workshop and answer questions about them so I obviously had to do the assignment to participate in the workshop. So instead of what I had done in the PAST, I actually started the day I was given the assignment and then finish the next day or so. But instead of looking at a blank word document on the computer screen, I WROTE out ALL my papers, including the 10 page research paper, it was a lot less intimidating looking at a blank notebook page than a computer screen. And a lot less distracting.
After being in this class, my writing habits have changed so much. I don't procrastinate as badly as I did back in high school, and I start my plan of attack differently also. I could get away with the habits I had back in high school with flying colors! But now being in college, the habits needed to be broken for good. I figured out that I love writing, no matter if it's because I have to or just in my spare time. And i've also come to realize thanks to my friend Alex, that I am the only person in the world who actually enjoys writing :)
