I didn’t know being uneducated was considered polite; her mother’s upbringing must have been interesting. However, maybe I am ignorant towards the ignorant. Is it her fault she is the way she is? Probably not, but why would you post a video of it on YouTube. Maybe miss Wallace you are not as polite as you think you are. I mean she did state that, "Im not the most politically correct person." Wait but aren't you a political science major? Right....
Okay so back to ignorance, of course I get it, she was not raised in the correct environment. How does this still happen in our society today. In school, we are taught of the mistakes of the past, ignorance and racism being two of them, but some are still unaware of the attitudes and beliefs which prevent everyone from getting along together and working in unison. Why does this happen. I think Phillip Larken has the answer.
Of what is true or right or real,
But forced to qualify or so I feel,
Or Well, it does seem so:
Someone must know.
Strange to be ignorant of the way things work:
Their skill at finding what they need,
Their sense of shape, and punctual spread of seed,
And willingness to change;
Yes, it is strange,
Even to wear such knowledge - for our flesh
Surrounds us with its own decisions -
And yet spend all our life on imprecisions,
That when we start to die
Have no idea why.”
Maybe not, Mr. Larken could reason that Andreas sense of truth is misdirected. Good point Mr. Larken. Wooohooo? NO! Why no? Because, Andrea is just one example. She is most likely not the only one of her nature. So how should we overcome this dilemma. Hello! Become more educated citizens. Obviously Andrea is indifferent towards Asian culture. Its funny though cause my mom actually will cook me food that I can take up for the week. We must first understand others to understand ourselves. To see how others are can enlighten one to why they may perform the actions they undertake. However this may prove difficult at times, especially when studying for a quarter final in the library. Though the consciousness must always remain. Its not always easy to understand other cultures. However, one could easily judge American culture by Andreas alone. I mean she judged all Asians by just two encounters. We must learn to be a more accepting culture, if we do not, perhaps world peace may never be attainable.
